WATCH: Citizens/Officer Jump In To Save Man From Burning Truck

Kaufman County, TX:

This is a little personal for me. It happened close to home. The officers of the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Department put their lives on the line every day to protect the people of our community.

It is rare that a law enforcement agency would publish a body cam video, even less common to capture citizens helping.

The tagline on the Kaufman County Sherriff’s Office Page begins:

“Warning: This video contains footage of a serious traffic accident.
We often hear about people who will risk their own safety for a stranger. And we regularly hear about the bravery of our Deputies, however, it is not often that we actually witness the acts together – especially from the deputy’s perspective. Yesterday some good Samaritans helped KCSO Deputy C. Martin save the life of a motorist who was pinned in his vehicle that caught fire and consumed the cab with smoke. These individuals, without regard for their own safety, were attempting to free the driver when Deputy Martin arrived; working together they eventually freed the driver. Without the cooperation of everyone involved, this could be a very different story…”

The video can’t really be described with words. WOW Just WOW! That is about all I can say! Remember to turn off Mute on the Video, it is muted by default so we don’t bother people when it plays.

Deputy and Citizens free man from vehicle after fiery crash

We have reached out to a few of those who helped, but have not identified everyone; to those we may have missed – we would like to recognize you in person! Kaufman County is fortunate to have Deputy Martin serving this community. He has proven he has the heart of a servant and the bravery of a lion; we couldn't be any more proud that he is a Kaufman County Deputy Sheriff!

You can hear the trapped man screaming “please help me,” as citizens and the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Officer fly to his aide.

He leg was stuck and after a few minutes of work, they were able to free the trapped man. Ultimately, saving his life.

Even after the man was freed Officer C. Martin keeps the public safety in mind asking those who helped to back further away from the burning vehicle.

This is a rare glimpse of the danger faced by Officers every day, and the times when people come together to help someone in need. God Bless our Law Enforcement Officers and those who are willing to jump in and help during times like this.
