The day before yesterday a magazine called Christianity Today ran an editorial saying that President Trump should be removed from office. Shortly after this, the much larger mainstream media publications including the New York Times, and The Washington Post held up the editorial as proof that “Christians” oppose Trump, which couldn’t be further from the truth.
The backlash from the overall Christian community was swift, direct, and indisputable. Everyone who has a voice in the Christian community (global) put everything that had behind their rebuke of Christianity Today and in some cases their Editor in chief.
The editorial along with the Fake News that followed was a scam. Simply put, Christianity Today is a struggling 501c (3) non-profit with only about 80,000 subscribers. Their impact is a mere shadow of mine, and I am just a proverbial drop in the bucket.
The issue was not the extreme minority opinion they presented, it was how the Fake News used their editorial to propagate a false narrative. I did something I’ve never done.
I used my master email list with over 3 million subscribers. I built that list for over 15 years. The entire list was double opt-in. In other words, every subscriber on that list responded to a subscription email confirming their desire to be on it.
In effect I burned that list, to make the point and make people aware. It worked, my Blog Post was read nearly 2 million times. Easily one of my top ten posts of all times.
I felt it as necessary and prudent because very few people know that Christianity Today is a dying organization. Some saw the name of the magazine and surely paused. Which is exactly what the likes of the Washington Post wanted.
We live in a world surrounded by misinformation. Websites are not what they seem. The names of organizations no longer align with their core values, and the news isn’t really news anymore, or so we think…
With that, I want to leave you with three questions to ask yourself.
Is this new, or are we finally seeing it for what it has always been?
Would we have ever seen it for what it is without President Trump’s relentless, direct, and sometimes abrasive approach to exposing the lies used against him?
2 Peter 2:1
But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves.
